Faux leather is typically cheaper than natural leather. For example, you can find faux leather barstools for as little as $50, while actual leather barstools usually start around $200.
A bar stool with arms, although costlier, can be more comfortable than an equivalent bar stool without arms. On top of that, bar stools with arms make a style statement. Bar stools with arms can be up to 24 inches wide and offer great safety, support, and comfort. Some bar stools even use upholstered or wood armrests in matching materials or colors for stunning visual effects.
If you want to offer a comfortable seating option for longer periods, invest in bar stools with a backrest. Backrest height, measured from the top of the backrest to the seat, can be as low as 8 inches or can go up to 16 inches. A high backrest allows your guests to enjoy meals in the restaurant and can sometimes feel a bit more private than a backless option. Some of the more decorative barstools with backs can also add more design style to your space.
Simple yet sleek, backless bar stools are cost-effective yet very functional. Slide them beneath the counter when not in use or stack them to save storage space. They are space-efficient and effortless to clean or maintain. Also, they are lightweight and easy to shift or re-locate without causing any disruption to your guests. The only drawback may be that for some guests, backless options may not feel comfortable for longer durations.

Leather bar stools have either a full back or mid-back or are backless.
Mid--back stools provide a bit of lower back support and structure without the bulk of a full back.

A good rule of thumb is 10 to 12 inches between the top of the bar or counter and the top of the seat.

The length of the bar or counter determines the number of bar stools you need. Leave 6 to 8 inches between armless bar stools and 8 to 10 inches between bar stools with arms.

There are many different styles to choose from, ranging from modern contemporary stools to scandi-style bar stools.
You want to leave around 12 inches between the seat and the counter/bar to ensure there's enough leg room. Our bar stool size and spacing guide can help you find the perfect height and size for you.
From swivel seats to footrests, there are plenty of extra features available on bar stools. These can be very useful in some cases, for example, a swivel seat that allows you to face multiple directions. That being said, they aren't a must-have for everyone, so it's important to consider the different options before making a decision.
Allow for Legroom: Leave enough space between the top of the stool and the underside of the counter or bar for comfortable legroom. A standard guideline is to leave 9-12 inches of space between the seat of the stool and the counter.
Choose Stool Height: Based on your measurements, select a stool with a seat height that is appropriate for your counter or bar. The seat height should ideally be 9-12 inches less than the counter height.
Finally it's important to note how durable leather can be. This material is one of the only types that are considered to be almost maintenance free. All you have to do is clean and condition it once in a while. It will stay in tip-top condition for a long period of time if you take care of it. A small investment in a good cleaner and conditioner will have huge payoffs in the long run.
As faux leather is made from synthetic materials rather than natural ones, it has a lower environmental impact. So if sustainability is important to you, faux leather barstools are the way to go. Cow farms account for over 14% of total greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere, so choosing faux leather can help reduce your carbon footprint.
These leather bar stools cost about $150 or less per stool. You can sometimes find them in sets of two or more. Invariably, these inexpensive stools use faux leather, usually PU leather for its realistic appearance. Many modern and retro-style bar stools with aluminum or steel pedestals are available in this price range, including those with swivels and pneumatic lifts. These stools usually require some assembly.
Mid-range
These leather bar stools cost between $150 and $500. You can find all designs and styles in this range, from traditional to rustic to industrial to retro, in synthetic leathers and sometimes real leather. The frame might be made of engineered wood, steel, or aluminum and require some assembly.
From $500 to $1,000 and more you'll find high-quality bar stools featuring hardwood with good craftsmanship and genuine, often premium leather. Classic traditional bar stools are in this price range along with designer-label pieces with modern and contemporary designs.
